Buying Originals and Commissions
Q: Can I purchase original artwork?
A: Yes, original work that is available for sale will be listed under here or on the Oriel Noah site under Originals. Some Originals are not for sale and some are at exhibition or on loan. If you do not see an original that you would like to purchase please highlight the work when using the contact page when making an inquiry.
Q: Do you take commissions?
A: Yes, However I am very selective on what commissions I spend time on. I try to keep my work consistent with my style to create a fluent body of work. Most of my time is spent on growing my body of work to display at exhibitions. Please contact me to book a commission meeting.
Q: How long does it take for you to create a piece?
A: There is no specific amount of time, since each piece is unique in its making. But to try and answer the question, paintings have taken up to 3 months off and on, and some drawings I have completed in less than a day. Average ink drawing is around 24 hours. Remember, that there is finishing such as protecting, varnishing, and framing after the work is completed.
Originals and edition types
Q: What is an original?
A: An original artwork is the first and authentic version of a work created and finished by JB Evans, unlike a reproduction which is a copy. These one-of-a-kind pieces are made with tangible materials like paint on canvas, clay for sculpture, and even printed digital originals. They are often the most valuable works by the artist.
Q: What is a hand finished edition?
A: A "hand-finished edition artwork" is a piece from a limited edition print run that JB Evans has further embellished by hand, making each piece unique. This hand-finishing can involve painting, drawing, adding gold leaf, or other techniques that add personal touches and increase the artwork uniqueness. These works are sometime known as semi-original.
Q: What is an Artist Proof?
A: Artist proofs are the first pieces produced for an edition, they are labelled a/p. Traditionally the artist proofs had subtle differences worked on by the artist and in our case is often distinctively unique. Artist proofs are rarer than standard editions and only usually available for a new release. Artist proofs often sell at the same price as the main edition however they can demand a premium on the secondary market as they are more sought after. Many collectors like the fact they are produced first.
Q: What does limited edition mean??
A: Limited edition reproductions are produced in limited numbers, which is intended to make the picture more exclusive. This can include hand finished editions, and artist proofs.
Q: What is a First Edition Print?
A: First edition reproductions are produced after the artist proofs when JB Evans is happy with the reproduction of his work. This is the bull of the first print run and is limited to 300. Future large print runs will be named differently and will not feature the first edition marking.

Q: Do you offer a Bespoke Framing Service?
A: Yes we do. Although we have a standard frame which can be purchased at the same time as purchasing the art work, we do offer alternatives at different price ranges. We believe that the right frame provides a visual accompaniment to its environment. Our hand-crafted framers draws on years of experience in time-honoured techniques such as metal leafing, hand painting, mounting, glazing and restoration. With frames designed and manufactured by us, we work closely with our clients to present each work of art to its full potential.
